What I Pack

Hello! Here, you will find a list of all my packing MUSTS and favorites.

I have been living out of my suitcase for almost 3 years now, so I think it’s pretty safe to say that I’ve got it down! I have only listed the products that I love and recommend. This is not a comprehensive list of everything I pack (because obviously, I bring more clothes), but as a lot of my clothes are bought at local stores, I don’t have recs. So this is only my staples that have lasted with me through all these years of non-stop travel.

LUGGAGE

Osprey Ozone Convertible . This is the luggage I’ve been using since the beginning. I chose it because it’s really lightweight, and Osprey pretty much guarantees that their material is indestructible (mine still looks totally new!). It comes with a separate computer backpack that can either be zipped unto the rolling luggage, or taken apart to wear as a backpack. It doesn’t fit too much more than your computer, iPad, small camera, and a jacket, but it’s completely fine for me and is great to use a day pack as well.

There are also removable straps that you can use to carry the entire luggage as a backpack on your shoulder (which I don’t do, but it could come in handy if you’re traveling somewhere with dirt roads).

EagleCreek Packing Cubes : Packing cubes are a must to keep everything nicely organized in your luggage. This set has a large, medium, and small bag. I use the large for clothes, medium for under garments, and small for electronics.

EagleCreek Compression Bags: Or alternatively, you can get the compression bags too, which is even better because it allows you to stuff in more stuff and then zip it around a second time for a flatter profile.

EagleCreek Toiletries Bag: I love this toiletries bag because it’s super lightweight (hardly weighs anything at all). It’s also pretty cute and holds a lot of stuff.

Humangear GoToob . These are great heavy-duty leak-proof tubes that you can put any liquidy stuff in. I use them for shampoo/conditioner and sunblock.

TSA Approved Lock Pretty self explanatory. Even if you’re just carrying-on, lock up that bag!

CLOTHING

I’m sure you already have your own ideas of clothing to pack, so here are just some of my essentials. I may do a separate guide on every piece I pack for full-time travel.

Uniqlo Ultralight Puffer. Omg, I LOVE this! It literally weights nothing and can be squished down to almost no size at all. It’s super warm as well and is completely windproof. This has been tested in cold Taipei and Beijing winters. Of course if you’re going somewhere cold for a long time, this is not enough. But it’s good enough in a pinch.

American Apparel Leggings. American Apparel better not ever discontinue these because they’re my GO TO. I love how they are a bit shiny so they look nice in formal situations. But the MOST amazing thing is that they seem to be completely scratch resistant! I’ve worn mine for 3 years now and they have literally been all over the world with me. I’ve scraped them and caught them on sharp objects, and they still look BRAND NEW! Amazing!

Only complaint is that the waistband is kind of tight and it’s not so comfortable for my ever growing tummy.

Marmot PreCip Jacket. I love this as my rain shell. I don’t carry an umbrella and you never know when it may rain. This has come in handy so much so I can still have fun even in drizzly weather! It folds up practically flat so it hardly takes up any space at all.

Onitsuka Tiger fashion sneakers. I love them for how trendy yet comfortable they are. They are so super lightweight that I barely even feel them on me. And I have covered very very long distances in them without blistering or feet aching.

Crocs Adrina Flats. Don’t make fun of me, but I LOVE these Crocs, and I happen to think they’re pretty cute. And they are damn comfortable! I can walk for literally miles in them. Seriously, I climbed the Great Wall and other semi-demanding hikes in these Crocs (well, different pairs, but you get the point). And because they’re jelly, they’re so easy to keep clean. Perfect for humid places like Southeast Asia.

Ray Bans. I splurged on a pair of nice sunglasses. Because you’ve gotta protect your eyes from those UV rays.

ELECTRONICS

Canon PowerShot G7X. I’ve been meaning forever to do a camera review, but here’s a brief opinion first: I picked this one up last year (October 2015) when it just came into the market. I LOVE it. I love that it shoots crisp, professional looking (at least in my opinion!) photos. But the best part to me is that it’s not too heavy and is small enough to fit into a jacket/hoodie pocket.

Mini Portable Battery Charger. I like this one for how small and lightweight it is, but it only charges up a phone about 1.5 times. So this is great for a long flight or day trip, but not a multi-day wilderness hike.

My Passport Ultra Portable External Hard Drive. I will DIE if I ever lose this! This is where I store all my pictures I ever take, literally thousands and thousands of photos since Day 1 of traveling. It has 2 terabyte of space, which I’m not sure is how big, but I have THOUSANDS of pictures and over a dozen movies on there, and I’m not even at 1/5 capacity.

Universal Travel Adapter. Don’t forget an adapter if you’re traveling out of the country! I love this one because it has 2 USB charging ports on the side, so you can literally charge all your electronics at the same time.

Wi-Fi Extender. Sometimes, the wifi signal will be super weak. And an wifi extender will somehow pick it up stronger and deliver a faster connection. This has really come in handy in places like Siem Reap and Boracay.

HEALTH/BEAUTY

Lunette Menstrual Cup. I think this is the best thing ever for travelers for managing your period on the road. No more having to buy feminine hygiene stuff on the road, or worry if certain countries even sell tampons, or worry if you can flush down the toilet. Not to mention no more taking up room in your luggage.

EXTRAS

Manduka eKO SuperLite Travel Yoga Mat. This yoga mat weighs only 2 pounds and folds up relatively flat. It fits in my carry-on with all my clothing and everything else I mentioned too. Great if you want to continue your yoga practice on the road.
