Hi! Welcome to Slightly Astray!
When I started this blog, I introduced myself as an ordinary twenty-something who found herself living an extraordinary life on the road when she fell for a boy who asked her to travel the world with him.
And so, I quit my career as a civil engineer in Southern California, and spent two amazing years on a whirlwind of a world journey that took us from South America to Europe to Asia.
But now, I can say that I’m an almost thirty-year-old (yikes!!) who found herself all of a sudden single and needing to figure out life alone.
But I’m still determined to keep on traveling and make a life for myself out here on the road. It’s a much more different kind of life from what I had ever imagined, but a much more interesting one. This journey has always been about pursuing happiness first and foremost, after all, and a slight change in plans won’t stop that.
This blog serves as a digital scrapbook of my most precious travel memories. I write about the places I go, things I do, and eating until I’m bursting at the seams. But more importantly, this blog is my story of self discovery as I make sense of life as a traveler.
From the very beginning, I have aimed to be completely transparent. I am always honest about my internal struggles because 1) despite stumbling into this dream life, real problems still exist, and 2) I want everything I write to reflect the real me. Although I gotta admit that the blog-me is a lot more eloquent than real-life-me. :)
One absolutely lovely thing I’ve discovered from blogging is getting to connect with so many like-minded people from around the world! I am always open to thoughtful discussion and new friendships. You guys, my readers, are the best thing about this blog! So please never be shy to leave a comment or email me. :)
You can also find me on bloglovin’ and Facebook. I’m so thrilled to have you along on the journey!
